The Creative Kind Artist: Ellen Brenneman

This week we’re featuring artists from The Creative Kind, a Facebook Auction Group, The purpose of this group is to create original works of art to be offered during a monthly auction where part of the proceeds from each piece sold will collectively be given to a charity of the artists choice. This month, a portion of the sales will be donated to the Innocence Project. The auction will be held June 23-24 on Facebook.

Today we will feature our own Ellen Brenneman.

I’ve been been creating animals for as long as I can remember. As a child my mother would often find me doodling under the cherry tree in my backyard while carrying on lengthy conversations with the squirrels and birds. My love of art continued through my teen years and into college where I studied Graphic Design at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Today, I remain happiest when connected to animals and bringing them to life on paper or canvas. My most recent series features animals painted in richly, intense color combinations, all created with the intent on capturing the spirit of my subjects. Thirty-five of these paintings are part of my recently released oracle deck, ‘Power Animals of the Planet’.

The Spirit of Lion

I have been working as a full-time artist since 2012, selling the majority of my work via Etsy and my social media channels. Being a wildlife artist has allowed me to partner with several organizations over the years to help raise awareness for causes that I care about. In 2018 a friend reached out to me with an idea about forming a small group of artists who would auction off paintings while donating part of the proceeds from to charity. We would call ourselves The Creative Kind. I immediately said yes.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be able to create art for a living, and I’m proud of the work I do in The Creative Kind; it has allowed me to continue supporting charities with the added benefit of working with a group of kind, compassionate, talented artists. Together, we are making a difference.
