For our next virtual book club, we have decided to read Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad. From the book description on the website, “Me and White Supremacy: A 28-Day Challenge to Combat Racism, Change the World, and Become a Good Ancestor leads readers through a journey of understanding their white privilege and participation in white supremacy, so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on black, indigenous and people of color, and in turn, help other white people do better, too. The book goes beyond the original workbook by adding more historical and cultural contexts, sharing moving stories and anecdotes, and includes expanded definitions, examples, and further resources.”
As a part of our commitment to learning about whiteness and how to become an anti-racist, we are highlighting this read as our July virtual book club read. Me and White Supremacy is structured as a 28-day workbook, although you can work through it at your own pace.
We will discuss the book and what we learned on Monday, July 6, and we would love for you to join us in that conversation, either here, or on social media.
We view this reading as a critical step in our awareness of white privilege and taking steps in our own lives to combat racial inequity, racist behaviors, and structural racism in our own lives. We hope you’ll join us.
